Faculty Making a Difference

Bobby Hiep Bui is senior lecturer and program director for the EdM in Counseling. Bui has 15+ years of experience teaching and practicing psychology in a variety of academic and clinical settings with diverse populations. He worked with Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison, a nonprofit organization in New York that helps incarcerated people work toward a bachelor’s degree and supports people reentering society from prison. Through Hudson Link, Bui taught classes in introductory psychology, abnormal psychology, and personality at a men’s maximum-security prison.

“These men . . . were the hardest-working students I’ve ever had.” According to Bui and Hudson Link, around two-thirds of formerly incarcerated people “return to prison within three years of their initial release date.” But for Hudson Link graduates, it’s less than 2%. “We’re not just building a better community inside the facility, but we’re changing the lives of people and their families outside,” Bui says.
